Acute Aortic Dissection Replacement Using Frozen Elephant Trunk

Aortic dissection is a serious condition in which there is a tear in the wall of the major artery as the tear extends along the wall of the aorta, blood can flow in between the layers of the blood vessel wall (dissection). Acute aortic dissection is a catastrophic condition, for which emergency surgery is the mainstay of therapy.

A 52yrs Male transferred with history of mild pain in chest radiating to back with no significant ECG changes and cardiac markers negative, Trans thoracic Echocardiography S/O Flap Dissection in ascending Aorta which was confirm on CT which shows Aortic Dissection Type A involving the origin of Aorta from its roots, arch, descending aorta till bifurcation and into right common iliac artery also involving the right CCA and brachiocephalic trunk.

There was no evidence of coronary artery involvement. The patient was taken for an emergency surgery: replacement of ascending aorta , proximal arch, innominate artery with Frozen Elephant Trunk and Aortic Valve Replacement due to mild aortic regurgitation.

The patient recovered well from the surgery and was discharged on Post-operative Day 12.
